Conference badges are worn for a day and thrown away by the thousand. This one is recycled cardboard with a seed-embedded card inside, so the attendee plants it instead and it comes up as assorted wildflowers. Format is 11.3 x 9.3 cm, planting instructions are printed inside, and the badge carries the Made in Europe emblem.
It suits conferences, congresses, green and sustainability events, university and public-sector programmes, and any trade show where procurement asks what happens to the materials afterwards. It is a poor fit for anything wet or rough: an outdoor festival in the rain, a multi-week access pass, or a gate where badges are grabbed and pulled dozens of times a day. Cardboard is cardboard. If the credential has to survive a season, use a durable holder for access control and put the seed paper in the delegate bag as the takeaway instead.
The badge only pays off if people know what it is, and the instructions are printed inside, which means someone has to open it. Put a single line on the outside face telling them to. Repeat it in the joining instructions, and say it from the stage on the last morning — the number of badges actually planted rises with every reminder, and the ones that are planted are the ones your sustainability claim rests on. A zero-waste badge that goes in the bin unopened is just a badge.
That is a normal conference format and it is not large once a name, an organisation and a session track are on it. Keep the delegate name the biggest thing on the badge — it is read at arm’s length across a coffee table, by someone who has forgotten it. The eco message competes with the name for space, so hold it to a small mark and one line of text. Watch the contrast: recycled cardboard is a warm, flecked stock, and pale grey type on it is unreadable in a dim hall. Solid dark ink, generous size, one idea per side.
