A printed name badge costs a little and lasts one day. A window badge costs a little more and lasts a hundred days, because only the paper inside changes. For any organisation running recurring events, the arithmetic settles itself within two conferences.
A conference with 400 attendees consumes 400 printed badges. The same conference with window badges consumes 400 sheets of paper and reuses the frames next year. Collect them at the exit, wipe them, and the only recurring cost is the insert. Visitor management at a factory or office works the same way: one badge per pass, a new card per visitor.
The back carries a metal clip and a safety pin together. The clip is the everyday choice — it grips a lapel or a pocket without damage. The pin is the fallback for fabrics the clip slides off. Because both are on every badge, you order one item for a mixed team rather than guessing the split.

Use a magnetic name badge instead: it holds through the fabric and leaves no hole, which is why hospitality and premium retail prefer it. Note that magnetic badges are not suitable for anyone with a pacemaker.
