Wood grain varies. Two medals from the same batch will differ slightly in colour and pattern, which reads as character rather than as a defect — but it does mean wood is the wrong choice when a design has to reproduce identically across two thousand pieces. It is also lighter than metal by a large margin, which is the practical reason runners keep wearing it after the finish line rather than putting it in a bag.
An 80 cm ribbon is included. A recycled rPET-lint is the natural pairing here and usually the right one: a wooden medal on a virgin polyester ribbon undercuts its own argument.

And it looks like it belongs at a trail race, a forest event or a sustainability-led conference in a way a plated metal disc does not. If the award needs to feel heavy and formal, use metal.
Laser engraving burns the design into the wood, showing the grain through it — the most natural-looking option and the one that ages best. Screen print puts a solid colour on top, which is right for a bold single-colour logo. Full-colour UV print reproduces complex artwork and gradients directly on the wood. Engraving costs least and looks most like wood; UV costs most and looks least like wood.

They survive an event and years on a wall. They are not weatherproof: prolonged damp will raise the grain and fade a printed design faster than it fades on metal. For a medal that will hang outside permanently, metal is the right material.
